He is a prominent critic of creationism and intelligent design. I’ll tell you what has happened, to me at least, you sort of have to come out over and over and over again. Years before, the tabloids had written articles about Brian and me, when Frasier first started on the air. We didn’t hide it, we didn’t deny it and nobody really paid that much attention to it, and escort girls guangzhou it kind of disappeared. We’d go to the awards shows together. I might occasionally mention his name, might not, trying to walk the line between being honest and open and preserving our privacy. And I think that’s a hard line for anyone in public life to walk. I don’t know, maybe I could’ve been more specific and more public sooner, but it had more to do with kind of the way I was brought up. We’re just not a family that talked about private things in public. And I certainly didn’t go into the acting business to talk about my politics or my personal life or anything else like that. So it took me a while to be able to do that and depending on who you talk to, some people felt that I did it at the right time, some people felt like it was too late, some people felt I shouldn’t have done it at all. In the end, I think you just have to follow your heart and follow your instincts. Well, you know the genetic component is still very poorly understood. A very rare form of the disease called ‘early onset’ does have a strong genetic component. But for the rest of it, it’s a little bit vague. I think honestly more than being afraid of it, I’m angry at it. Seeing my grandfather have Alzheimer’s, my dad having some form of dementia, possibly Alzheimer’s—that was enough for me. Seeing the toll it took on my grandmother and my mom, that’s what really made me realize that this is a very particularly cruel disease. フランス語の羽の少年話すことはありませんすぐにされているファッション界ではFanyufu 布!)の"ファッションダーリング。彼の作品には、成功へのブランドの鍵となるコンセプトは、ユニークで完璧な豊かな創造性。

Though we don't possess the thorough comprehension of the Japanese language required to understand what's happening in the video posted above, we know that we like what we see. If you've got some time to kill, check out the ten minute co-op demonstration of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker at the top of this post. It shows of a few of the game's neat multiplayer tactics, including an invisibility gun and the increasingly iconic "four-legged tank maneuver." Judging by those two alone, it certainly looks like Peace Walker's capacity for hijinks is going to be near-limitless.Ten minutes of co-op sneaking exposed in Peace Walker video originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 18 Mar 2010 21:30:00 EST. entry.10 Man behind the masks
HOLLYWOOD — Sacha Baron Cohen is perhaps the unlikeliest British movie star since the plain, self-effacing and rather asexual Sir Alec Guinness. But like the brilliant knight — who happened to be half-Jewish — Baron Cohen seemingly becomes the character he plays, even to the point of declining television interviews unless he can appear as the character in his latest film. Ironically, Baron Cohen's two most famous movie characters are anti-Semitic (likewise, Guinness elicited widespread controversy for his stereotypical portrayal of Fagin in the 1948 film of "Oliver Twist"). Baron Cohen, born Oct. 13, 1971, and standing 190 cm tall, is something of an enigma, even though several facts about him have leaked out over the years since he became Britain's most popular — or notorious — TV star. Although he played a semiliterate, would-be black but nonblack character named Ali G, Baron Cohen is Cambridge-educated, liberal and an observant Jew who spent time living in Israel and working on a kibbutz.

entry.13 Run Away from‘Common’Education Standards—By: NRO Staff
A couple of days ago, Fordham Institute president Chester Finn declared on NRO that conservatives should embrace new, national education standards from the Common Core State Standards Initiative. What he didn’t say is that those standards will be federal, and that’s a recipe for failure. Finn began his piece by arguing, simply, that conservatives should embrace the new (but still draft) standards because, well, they’re pretty good. That’s a debatable conclusion, but it’s also ultimately irrelevant. What Finn wrote next gets into why the quality of the standards is irrelevant. Finn took pains to explain that the common standards are anything but connected to Washington. “They emerged not from the federal government but a voluntary coming together of (most) states,” he wrote. Moreover, “states’ decision whether or not to adopt them will remain voluntary.” !) Why would Finn make voluntarism and freedom from the feds major selling points? Because conservatives know that federally imposed standards would be subject to federal politics, and that means control by the teachers’ unions, administrators’ associations, and other interest groups that have outsized political power in education. Conservatives also know that what’s best for those groups is not high standards but low or no standards, and that that is a major reason federal laws like No Child Left Behind have been abject failures. !) Finn, though, doth protest too much: For states, adopting the standards will be about as voluntary as paying ransom to a kidnapper. Even before a single standard had seen the light of day, the Obama administration was informing states that to compete for part of the $4.35 billion Race to the Top fund -- a fund stocked with money involuntarily taken from state taxpayers -- states had better sign onto CCSSI. And Race to the Top is just the beginning. Having states adopt common -- oh, let’s just call them “federal” -- standards is central to the administration’s Elementary and Secondary Education Act reauthorization proposal. At this point, the reason conservatives should be sprinting away from national standards, not embracing them, should be clear. Adopting them will give the federal government yet more power over American education, while the standards themselves will almost certainly end up toothless. That said, there are a couple other, very important reasons to reject national standards. First, as I lay out in a new report on the subject , there is very little good, comparative research on national standards, but what there is offers no compelling reason to believe that they lead to superior educational outcomes. That’s probably why Finn never mentioned “evidence” or “research” in his sales pitch. But would you buy a pill -- especially one designed to take over your entire body -- without research demonstrating at least some positive effect? !) Then there’s reality: All kids are different. They mature at different rates, have different interests, and face different obstacles. In light of this, it simply makes no sense to try to force them all to learn the same thing at the same pace. It’s something that most conservatives -- who recognize the primacy of the individual -- fully understand, yet Finn asserts that it’s liberals who oppose a single standard for all. If that’s so, then why aren’t more liberals supporting widespread school choice -- the key to ending special-interest control of education and enabling unique kids to find schools specializing in their needs -- the way conservatives are? Oh, right: Because it’s typically liberals who love big, one-size-fits-all government solutions to problems fundamentally rooted in a lack of freedom. The CCSSI standards might look great on paper. But federally extorted standardization? That’s something conservatives should never embrace. -- Neal McCluskey is associate director of the Cato Institute's Center for Educational Freedom and author of the report "Behind the Curtain: Assessing the Case for National Curriculum Standards.”

entry.14 Is the music industry trying to write the digital economy bill?
The mess of the digital economy bill suggests that the record industry thinks it's better to get influence than popularityTwo weeks is a lifetime in politics !) especially in the political life of the backwards digital economy bill, Labour's gift to the incumbent entertainment industries that government is bent on ramming into law before the election. In mylast column, I bore the bizarre news that the LibDem front-bench Lords had introduced an amendment to the bill that would create a Great Firewall of Britain. This would be a national censorwall to which the record industry could add its least favourite sites, rendering them invisible to Britons (except for those with the nous of a 13-year-old evading her school's censorware). Over the following days, the story got weirder: theLibDem amendment got amended, to add a figleaf of due process to the untenable proposal. And then it got weirder still: aleaked memo from the BPI(the UK record industry lobby) showed that the "LibDem amendment" had in fact been written !) with minor variances !) by the BPI. And the BPI continued to leak: someone sent me theweekly internal status update prepared by Richard Mollet, BPI Director of Public Affairs for the core group of plotters behind the bill (someone should teach Mr Mollet about BCC). In the memo, Mollet !) himself a prospective Labour parliamentary candidate for the next election !) admits that the only reason that the digital economy bill has a hope of passing is that MPs are "resigned" to voting on it without debate. Translation: if MPs got to debate the bill, they would tear it to unrecognisable pieces as they realised what terrible rubbish it really is.Andthen, thenextday, Bridget Fox, a LibDem prospective parliamentary candidate who had spoken out against her party's new pro-censorship stance, introduced anemergency motion to the LibDems' spring conference. This motion called for the LibDems to follow a policy that puts internet freedom front and centre, categorically rejecting web censorship and disconnection of infringers and their families, and embracing net neutrality and all the other freedoms that you'd expect from the "party of liberty". In other words, the LibDems had declared themselves to be not biddable by the entertainment industry, and indirectly but firmly rebuked the Lords who'd done the BPI's dirty work for them.By all accounts, the "debate" following Fox's proposal was a one-sided affair. No one came forward to oppose it. Instead, for half an hour, speaker after speaker stood up to declare the importance of a free and open net. When the vote came, it was near-unanimous (I hear that there was one vote against the proposal). If the BPI had hoped to have an ally for the years to come in the LibDems, they blew it by asking for too much !) and getting it. Their greed in exploiting their influence over the LibDem Lords galvanised the LibDem rank and file into enshrining a rejection of the BPI's agenda into the party's official policy. The scene reminded me of the inception of Sweden's Pirate Party, in the wake of a high profile raid on the data-centre that housed The Pirate Bay's servers. The police there acted illegally, taking instruction directly from a minister who was getting his own marching orders from the US entertainment lobby. The Pirate Bay was briefly taken offline before springing up on new servers. But the hundreds of other, legitimate sites that were taken down in the same raid weren't so lucky. The abuses of that raid !) punishing the innocent, using the police as private enforcement goons for an offshore corporate cartel !) turned Swedes from people who downloaded a little copyrighted music because it was convenient into militants who saw a duty to take down the entertainment companies before they wrecked Swedish democracy. Here's the thing I can't work out: are these entertainment cartel overshoots the result of arrogance, or are they calculated losses? Is the BPI willing to turn the LibDems from an ally into an enemy if they can get a couple of amendments into the digital economy bill? Was it worth burning this bridge just to move the goalposts on censorship by a few inches? Or did they really believe that there would be no consequences for their actions?I try to credit them with the "calculated loss" theory when I can, but the evidence really points to an unrealistic view of the world born of the arrogance of power. After all, how else to explain the BPI's contention (in the leaked secret status update) that MI5 may be responsible for the opposition to its plans to undermine Britain's global IT competitiveness, the rule of law, free speech and innovation (MI5 is said to be worried that monitoring online activity will get harder when people take up tools to evade copyright enforcement)? It really seems like record execs find it easier to believe that their opposition is being propped up by a cabal of spies than that the people of Britain really just don't want to be spied upon, harassed, and deprived of fundamental liberties in order to give a small clutch of entertainment companies slightly higher profits.InternetDigital BritainPolitics and technologyCory Doctorowguardian.co.uk© Guardian News&Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to ourTerms&Conditions|More Feeds

entry.15 Deep Sea Fishing Dubai: Experience The Fun Of Deep Sea Fishing In Dubai, Deep Sea Charter Fishing In Dubai
Deep Sea Fishing DubaiDeep Sea Fishing Dubai is an outstanding opportunity to get adventurous moments in your life. Arabian Gulf Dubai is absolutely one of the largest sailfish destinations in the whole world. The hot and thin waters of the Arabian Gulf particularly provide plenty of plankton for the immeasurable shoals of sardines that are pursued not only by sailfish. Fishing in Dubai conditions are absolutely calm with excellent visibility and the sailfish are caught just about 30 - 40 miles offshore in only thirty meters of water. Some other fish that are caught in the Dubai fishing much closer to all the harbors are queen fish, dolphin, kingfish, long tail tuna, bonito, Spanish mackerel, giant trevally, cobia and barracudas that you seems from time to time even try to get rid of for sailfish reasons. We also saw sometimes blue sharks. Deep sea fishing Dubai especially provides you with barracuda, big brine catfish, stingrays’ fish and guitarfish, occasionally different species of shark. The fishing Dubai season runs from the month of October till the month of May, what is hypothetical to be Dubai’s winter. Thus the Low temperature range between 25 and 30°C (but going out for staid fishing at 7 in the morning means the real frosty till 10 a.m.!) what particularly provides non-fishers with exceptional conditions for activities like any other kind of water sports, golfing, hanging out the countless malls and souks, going out to the Dubai desert or just "tremendous beaching". So talking your non-fishing collaborator into some fishing feast to Dubai will be in fact easy! Plus, Dubai is one of the safe and sound destinations in the whole world, what actually means you can just go out for Dubai fishing and don’t have to be frightened about your loved ones! What particularly emphasizes the consequence of the deep sea fishing Dubai destination is the second place position of Chris Deane’s "Ocean voyager" in the whole world for 332 sailfish catches during the 98- 99 season. The all year around hot water of the Dubai attracts all types of fish which especially makes fishing Dubai highly pleasurable and full of joy and thrills. entry.16 A Boxing Footwork Epiphany
You know how sometimes — just once in a great while — everything you’ve worked so hard for suddenly comes together in a beautiful, quiet epiphany?I had one of the best boxing nights ever last night. The boxing team had finished warm-ups and we were slugging our way through six rounds of independent shadowboxing. Round after round of shadowboxing is kind of like practicing scales on the piano for an hour; there are times when you(and everyone who has to listen to you) think it will never, never, never end. The sameness becomes oppressive and you feel like you aren’t learning anything, only going through the motions of the old stuff until you’re half batty. But it pays off, all that practice.Last night I was in round four, or five, or seventy million of shadowboxing when I suddenly realized that I was dancing.I know, weird. But I promise you, I don’t have a graceful bone in my body. I have trouble not snickering when my coach tells me(with a patient sigh) to be “light on my feet,” balanced; perfectly poised between my lead and back foot, able to slip easily in any direction in that peculiar fashion native to the ring and essential to boxing.I lurch. I stumble, trudge, and and haul my body through space in the most ungainly fashion. But I didn’t last night. My brain was far, far away when suddenly the Ghost of Fabulousness whispered in my ear. Lightly, so as not to scare the shit out of me. You’re dancing.I considered this. There I was, balanced lightly between my lead and rear foot. On my toes. Sliding effortlessly, never overbalanced. That easy bobbing, swaying, dip and weave unfolding gracefully in every direction. For the first time in memory, I loathed the bell that would end it.It wasn’t a sparring night, so I didn’t get to test my work in the real boxing arena. But when the trainer put us on the heavy bags I was filled with power. I punched through. I moved with grace. I was unstoppable.Unstoppable.Thank God for these moments. They are the stuff of hope.Image by zarajayRelated posts:Lessons in the Ring: FootworkVictorian Doll(with Kitten Friends) Boxing WorkoutOne Moment of Glory

entry.18 Must there be a gun (okay, we mean rifle) Battle of the Sexes?
By Laura PappanoWhen Jonathan Hall captured the air-rifle individual title at the NCAA Rifle Championships, held at Texas Christian University last weekend, he realized what a big deal it was. “I had to represent the men,” said Hall, according to an NCAA news report.(Hall was the only guy to make the finals.)The all-female TCU team won the overall NCAA national title and the team air-rifle title; Sarah Scherer of TCU won the small bore individual title. While this was a big day for men — and for Columbia(Ga.) State, which just started a rifle team this year — it also serves as a reminder that men can compete in sports with top female athletes and sometimes win.Or, put another way, in some sports men and women can compete with and against each other. No problem.NCAA College Rifle is a co-ed sport. What makes this so interesting is that in Olympic competition, rifle is divided by sex. And not just divided, but assigned different rules. In rifle, for example, there are some events women don’t compete in at all(sound familiar?) and others — like the 50m, 3 position(prone, standing kneeling) where the men take 40 shots and women just 20. In the 10m air rifle, guys take 60 shots standing; women 40(same deal for the air pistol). Trap, double trap and skeet shooting call for 125 targets for men and 75, 120, and 75(respectively) for women. But why?Having different divisions and rules in an Olympic sport in which males and females already effectively compete together at the college level makes no sense. For those who argue that making Olympic shooting competition co-ed would cut down on chances for medals, I’d say: Make more categories. In 1976 when Margaret Murdock “tied” for a gold medal with Lanny Basham and was awarded a silver by the judges, it was a co-ed competition — and then divided after that. “Men didn’t like having a woman beat them,” Murdock told me a few years ago in an interview. Now, of course, they are used to it. Maybe the IOC can be out front here: There’s still time before London…

The Fog of War has Enveloped the Speaker Having been up on the House side for the last two days, I can report that the fog of war has enveloped the Speaker and will attempt to explain why the Speaker is losing. CNN puts the Speaker down 11 votes, FireDogLake puts the Speaker down 25 — Yes at 190 — she needs 216. This is a classic political battle: conflicting reports, disinformation and propaganda (two distinct things) moles, the light and dark roles of key operatives, overlaid with the impact of time — and those “inside the decision cycle” of their enemy. The basic problem for the Speaker and her team is the enemy (to them, that’s us) is inside their decision cycle. The greatest defense the Speaker has had against this happening before now has been her irrational behavior. But the predictability factor has skyrocketed because the Speaker and the White House — aka Axelrod and Valerie J. and the One — are fully committed to a knowingly destructive course of action: a vote to “pass the Senate bill without voting on it.” This is what we know . . . Capitol Hill Police Victims of Congressional Arrogance Okay, they are trying to bully the entire country, so this may not seem like such a big deal in the grand scheme of things. But, it’s a symptom of a much larger problem in the halls of Congress. Plus, it’s still really jerky, Better Than You !) behavior. It’s also incredibly stupid ; the Hill cops are meant to protect them. Please click here for the rest of the post. 3. Tea Party: Cute, Cuddly…Racist Homophobes Ordinarily I might have just passed on to the next headline, shaking my head in amazement at today’s edition of elitist patronization from this NYT drivel, but I was frozen in place when I got to the part about originalists being racists and bible-toting torture-loving Confederacy-worshipping rubes. Once the author bridged this description of “Originalism” to the “Tea Party” movement, the conclusion was easily enough reached. But, we’re told, don’t hold it against them; they’re young still, and haven’t gotten the memo yet about Originalism being for small minded racists. Please click here for the rest of the post. 4. Misreading China’s Intentions on Currency Re-valuation About the value of China’s currency: we all know it’s undervalued. The Chinese know it’s undervalued. They can see it in consumer-price inflation, which is now up between 2 and 3 percent after being subdued for much of 2009. They can see it in a 15% jump in housing prices in some cities. And they can see it in the growing concern among ordinary Chinese about the falling real value of their savings and their ability to keep up their headlong dash to prosperity. For all the talk about China powering a global recovery on a flood of government-driven investment, Chinese authorities have been steadily preparing the country for some tightening in bank lending and monetary conditions. They overstimulated, and they have to get this inflation under control. People are even starting to mutter darkly about a Chinese financial crisis caused by terrible credit quality among the (rampantly corrupt) local government authorities who borrow heavily against land to finance investment, using the central government’s credit. Against this backdrop, we had one of the mainstream media’s patented story clusters this past week, complete with heavily-publicized statements by favored pundits, innocently timed to coincide with statements by policymakers. Of course, none of this ever happens by design, since we all know the media are objective and only report what they see. PR has nothing to do with it. Please click here for the rest of the post.
