2010-02-22Hi Guy!)?s,So, Tonight I sat down at my computer to write my new blog.I opened my writing program, maximized it so it took up the whole screen, centred the text, and chose my font. Then, I carefully placed my fingertips over the key!)?s and stared at the white screen. After a few moments of staring.I leaned back in my purple chair, and looked over at my girlfriend Michelle, who was staying over tonight.I suddenly had a brilliant idea, that I had actually had a dream about the other night.Michelle was laying in my bed across from me reading a book. She had her hair in loose curls hanging freely down past her shoulders, it was dark coloured like her eyes.Michelle is very fit, and has C-cup breasts, and an ass that you just want to bury your face in!Michelle and I are very close, so I don!)?t necessarily have to try to seduce her, if you know what I mean. I said, !)?So, do you wanna help me with my blog?!)?!)?Sure.!)? She replied, with a big smile closing her book. !)?What can I do?!)?With a smile creeping across my face I replied. !)?Can you lick me while I write about it? It will help me describe in better detail my sensations! !)? I wasn!)?t entirely sure how helpful it would be, but the idea of having to type while someone is pleasuring me is an extreme turn on!Michelle kind of laughed and made a silly face and then coyly said !)?Alright.!)?It took a few moments for her to get into a comfortable position underneath my desk and in between my chair. However, after a bit of moving around we were ready.I spread my legs wide, and leaned back in my chair and put the keyboard on my lap. (I love my wireless keyboard!)She began teasing me, and due to the circumstance I was a little ticklish, and kept pulling away for a few moments. Finally I began to relax and I placed my hand on her head and caressed her hair.I moaned and tilted my head back in the chair.Michelle was kissing my inner thighs and the licking me with firm gentle swirls of her tongue.I could feel her hot breath on me, and it made me shiver. Then she would suck on my clit and thrust her tongue at the same time.I began to think of words to describe the moment, but after a few moments of getting into things, I finally said, !)?Ok I will describe this after!!)?I then put the keyboard back on the desk, and leaned back in my chair. I raised both my legs and put them onto of the desk, and Michelle was still on her knees, underneath the desk and buried between my thighs.I moved into her face, rocking my hips upward, higher and higher.I noticed that the surface of my skin was cold from the goosebumps, and chills she was giving me, but my pelvis was radiating heat to the rest of my body.I looked into her eyes a few moments, as she would look up at me and hold my gaze. She was making long tongue strokes around and in between my lips.I then, suggested we move to the bed to get more comfortable. So we did. I laid on my stomach and brought one leg up to my chest, and Michelle went in-between.Her mouth felt wet as she gave me big dripping kisses, and began to make upward tongue strokes on my clit.I could feel the increasing erogenous intensity inside of me, the pleasure made me move into her and hold on to her hair, while I thrusted with her tongue.I then flipped onto my back, and Michelle laid horizontally, resting her head on my leg, as my other leg went over top of her.She began her sucking on my clit, while thrusting her tongue inside of me again. It felt, amazing, having her please me. I closed my eyes, and began imaging that I was being overpowered and forced to have my pussy licked.I arched my back, and pulled my hair, and moaned.I had to take it, and there was nothing I could do, except be forced to feel the pleasure.I moved faster and faster into her, i began shouting, as I couldn!)?t even think anymore. The only thing I could feel was Michelle!)?s hungry tongue, as each lick moved me into ecstasy.I held on to the sides of the bed tight, and then placed a hand over my stomach and pushed down.I sat up a little, as I came, and then fell back in exhaustion as the white liquid poured out of me.Michelle, kissed the cum on my legs, and was going to give a few last kisses, but I was so sensitive I moved her away. She cuddled me, and we fell asleep under the blankets. She felt warm next to me, and as I fell asleep, I reminded myself to write about this adventure in the morning!xoxKimberly

Imagine everyone’s surprise as soon as a person bring him or her to any visit of your well-manicured Japanese-styled back garden and all of the sudden the well known peaceful sounds of slow relaxing Western beats fills the air? Seeking all-around for the minute or perhaps two for totally obvious key box audio system turn up nothing. Not able to realize exactly where this new music is actually emanating from they will rest inside their vision of the fantastic garden when your wireless speakers available as garden rocks brings about love the back garden even more so in comparison with they thought. This may have been a fantasy, yet high quality; prices and also security are still feasible concerns that these companies of wireless speakers pertaining to home entertainment solutions still get to work out ahead of getting presented at a price tag that will fascinate the actual mass-market consumer associated with home based theater in addition to watching movies. It really is regrettable although that wired sound quality remains to be discovered to be better than wireless. Still the actual difference in between the 2 will be decreasing on a regular basis, and with many audio blends, it is extremely tricky in order to separate out between the two. To grasp the particular technology associated with wireless speakers, one have to recognize that at this time there needs to be an electric power source in order to boost the sound. Of course this is easily reached through the usage of battery power, nevertheless needing to make use of the particular batteries to take action, causes it to be quite challenging. It's sad, as an illustration, that manufacturing battery still are not able to provide plenty of boosting for that audio electric power really necessary. You can however, realize this benefits as well as added flexibility regarding not necessarily having to cable speaker wire connections throughout your home for instance through the use of “wireless” sound system. Generally wireless stereo speakers may possibly make use of radio volume (RF) wireless transmission covering the 900 MHz or simply the 2.4GHz bands in order to correctly transmit audio signals which will work with digital technologies to succeed in the remote sound system. This permits the wireless speakers to work more efficiently with no worries of disturbance coming from microwave ovens, cell phones, as well as various other home devices as well as additional wireless implements which may be in the area. Thus, if your purpose people are considering speakers without wires is perfect for a home theater setting, do not need to consider the “home theatre in the box” set up where everything you would want from a home entertainment comes in the particular one box. Your greatest audio is going to be on the market to anyone through the usage of special add-on devices that could include a fairly small sender unit applied in order to link both straight into your rear-channel speaker coming out on the A/V receiver, or simply right to the line-level available of one's supply. Modern engineering remains in search of ways to fortify and also to brighten these products that exist for such use, while they do the job diligently for you to build services in effortlessly put on, not too pricey, and also highly flexible radio frequency (RF) systems. Certainly not only is each of our technologies very advanced, but the desires of the persons for particular things like wireless computer speakers grow day-to-day. It's hoped that our requirements tend to be achieved quickly, so that we could make use of wireless stereo speakers with which to embellish not just your home theater experiences but additionally be able to tour our Western gardens while your minds muse over what it required for you to really make these singing rocks! entry.6 Money Report: Stocks’‘Ice Age’, Deere’s Leap
A Long-Term 'Ice Age' for StocksStocks are poised to enter a long-term "Ice Age," according to Soci!)t!) G!)n!)rale (SCGLY) global strategist Albert Edwards. Both the Economic Cycle Research Institute's weekly index of leading indicators for U.S. growth and the Organization for Economic Cooperation & Development's monthly gauge of economic measures for China have peaked, Edwards wrote in a recent report. Such high points foreshadowed the stock market sell-off that began in October 2007 and sent the MSCI (MXB) All Country World Market Index down as much as 60% in 16 months. The strategist recommends holding 35% in stocks, 50% in bonds, and 15% in cash. His report follows one by Ian Gordon, a strategist at Longwave Group in Surrey, B.C., on Feb. 9 saying the Dow Jones industrial average could fall 90% over three years as U.S. equity markets move deeper into the "winter" phase of a half-century economic cycle. Gordon said the Dow is likely to bottom in 2012 and that "winter" may last until 2020.Deere: A Capital Expenditures Comeback?Deere (DE) didn't just beat expectations on Feb. 17. It slaughtered them. Net income rose to 57 cents a share, leaving analysts' average calls of 19 cents in the dust. Its stock rose 5%, to 56.48, on news of its first-quarter profit. Deere also raised its 2010 forecast and expects equipment sales to gain 6% to 8%, compared with the 1% decline it forecast last November.Analysts at Credit Suisse (CS), JPMorgan Chase (JOM), and Morgan Stanley (MS) say the stock could hit 65 to 70 over 12 months as demand overseas and efforts to replenish U.S. inventories spur production. "Foreign demand growth continues to be very strong, particularly from Asia, and we're starting to see capital spending pick up," says JPMorgan Chase economist Michael Feroli. Ways to play the trend: Vanguard's Industrials Exchange Traded Fund (VIS), up 3% this year, and the Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLI), up 4%. The S&P 500 is down 0.3%.What the Fed's Rate Hike MeansThe Federal Reserve's decision on Feb. 19 to raise the discount rate, which it charges banks for loans, dampened demand for riskier assets. The Fed said the quarter-point bump, to 0.75%, will encourage financial institutions to rely more on money markets, instead of the central bank, for short-term liquidity. The move "rocked the markets," says Cr!)dit Agricole CIB strategist Stuart Bennett, as foreign indexes—including Brazil's Bovespa—fell while the U.S. dollar hit a seven-month high. These moves don't necessarily mean investors should flee to safe havens. Channel Capital Research chief investment strategist Doug Roberts says to stick with what you've got, "unless the Fed embarks on a massive tightening spree." The discount rate rose from 2% to 6.25% from June 2004 to June 2006. Over that time, the S&P 500 returned 15% and the MSCI EAFE Index 37%. The Barclays Capital U.S. Aggregate bond index climbed 6%.

entry.7 浅田真央は「ルール」を理解できなかった愚者か−採点基準考(下)
For every Lysacek or Kim, there are dozens of skaters who are still struggling to master the system. Sasha Cohen, who won the silver medal in Turin but didn't make this year's Olympic team, said last month during U.S. Nationals in Spokane, Wash., that she spends her routine counting instead of performing. ・・・This focus on mental math can somewhat diminish the casual fan's enjoyment of the sport. Commentator Dick Button warned NBC viewers before nationals that they were not going to see the skating "we necessarily like the most." "We have to remember that this is a judging system based on points," Button told NPR. "It's the point value that counts [for] each of the individual moves." Jump combinations are still valued highly on the score sheet, but the "transitions" -- the moves and footwork that skaters perform while moving across the ice for their next jump combinations -- are important as well. Lysacek made the most of those. Skaters who dismiss such elements lose points but also give performances such as Plushenko's -- athletic, but more disjointed than graceful. "They're so busy having to do all these things," Hamilton said. "A lot of skaters haven't taken the time to work on the artistic element. But the best are doing everything." The system cuts both ways. It certainly doesn't reward artistic performers such as American Johnny Weir. ・・・Of course, the system isn't set in stone. The pendulum has swung from a completely subjective free-for-all to a points-driven strait jacket. It eventually will swing back to some middle ground. Perhaps reducing the number of technical requirements would be a place to start. (後略) She is intellectual as well as qute, isn't she? Having seen her overwhelming victory at this Olympics game, anybody may understand the victory was done on the basis of her mature personality, I think.「ルール」の本性から考える採点基準改定の構図 私は、Hamilton女史の提言に基本的には賛成です。

entry.10 My bright idea: Robert Winston
The scientist and TV presenter tells us why it's important to check out the dark side of inventions firstRobert Winston, Professor of Science and Society and Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College, London, is one of the best-known popularisers of science in this country and has a reputation for taking a provocative stance on many issues. His latest book,Bad Ideas? (Bantam Press) deals with the dark side of the inventions that have shaped human history, and when he arrives at theObserveroffices, this 69-year old doctor, sometime TV presenter and Labour peer is on characteristically punchy form.Your new book is described as "tracing the fascinating history of our attempts at self-improvement… but also questioning their value". In other words: not every invention is a copper-bottomed good thing. What is the downside of our inventiveness? The book tries to argue that every aspect of our inventiveness has a downside: that there's a dark side to every advance, and that's not generally recognised at the time.Nearly all inventions are not recognised for their positive side either when they're made. So, for example, scientists didn't go out to design a CD machine: they designed a laser. But we got all sorts of things from a laser which we never remotely imagined, and we're still finding things for a laser to do. But a laser can be used as a weapon.Where a laser is being used to attempt nuclear fusion, it's in a facility designed to improve nuclear weapons.A microchip, too, is something we wouldn't dream of being without, but it does bring unforeseen consequences in how we communicate, sometimes adversely in a democracy. When a discovery is made, a scientist probably only sees the advantage in the small arena of his or her own interest. Is it your point that society finds other uses for that invention years later? That's right, and [it's an] interesting thing about modern science !) very different from what happened before the industrial revolution. Before that, even people like James Watt, who were very focused, were generalists; they had a broad idea of what they were doing. In my lab now we have one person who's very interested in kinase in the cell, for instance, but perhaps won't see the relevance of that work in a bigger context. Science and scientists have tended to have to focus on more and more difficult and defined areas, and quite often we lose that big picture. The other point is [our] responsibility to society. The science I do has always been paid for by the tax-payer, and yet we scientists think of [it being]ourscience, and we tend to be rather precious about that. We have to be more responsive and recognise that the adverse affects of what we do have an effect on society as much as they do on us. Our ethical responsibility is something we need to think of afresh. Ethics is not routinely taught to science students except in medicine, and I think it should be.You've mentioned that when you were chairing the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee one of the most interesting aspects of the work was the question of science and society and what limits society might impose on science. But at the moment what we're seeing is the opposite, where science is trying to impose limits on technology to limit climate change and coming under great pressure from societynotto impose limits. How would you react to that?I don't think you can impose limits on science because the very nature of homo sapiens is that he !) she !) is an inquisitive species. You can't control science. You have to control the effects of science. It's a very interesting question about climate change. I repeatedly refer to climate change in the book but I deliberately avoided making it a book about climate change because the issues I'm interested in are more generic. But, clearly, if we are to combat climate change then a key thing is to have society onside. Without that we've failed. We need to communicate much better with society, and not necessarily trust governments, which may have other agendas. We saw this very clearly at Copenhagen and Kyoto. Is there the prospect that we never control technology and it wipes us out?I'm not that pessimistic. Alec Broers, inhis Reith Lecturesome years ago, argued that technology would solve the problems that technology had created. I'm not sure I go along with him because we should look at the downside of the technology at the very beginning of developing it. But I do think, so far, in the history of mankind, we've continued to improve our lot using technology and we've managed to control the worst aspects of that. I think climate change will be another example of where we're able to do that. Geo-engineering is pretty fanciful stuff. Nonetheless, those technologies are developing so quickly in many universities it would be inexcusable not to take them seriously. I think that somewhere we'll hit the button. What inventions do you feel most encompass your theme !) the idea of threat versus promise?Big ones, I think. Big technologies like agriculture, which is perhaps the biggest of all because that really changed humankind. It made us much more vulnerable, and it made us live shorter to start with as well. In modern terms the technology of oil is fascinating because we understood early on that oil was not as simple or as useful as it might seem. In the early days of oil, when it was over-produced, it caused immediate economic chaos, for example in Texas. And then it became obvious in the Middle East a long time ago that it was a much bigger source of conflict than we'd given it credence for. And [it] probably still is. You could argue that Iraq and even Afghanistan are in some ways linked to our usage and dependence on oil.I've avoided that, but I'm [also] pretty hard on medicine. Medicine, which I wouldn't be without, has also been a force for... less good. For example, if you look at our mishandling of the immune system, using antibiotics in children and avoiding infection, we've certainly increased the risk of asthma. And it may be that juvenile diabetes, for example, is [also] much more common as a result. One of the other things that worries me is that there has been increasingly an impetus to diagnose, to make medicine a more scientific subject, forgetting the patient. I think there is a turnabout now in our medical schools where we are addressing that issue, but we have produced generations of doctors who can't (because of time constraints or bureaucracy) or won't (because of the way they've been taught) actually communicate very well with their patients, and communication is a fantastic healer. So it's often a case of two steps forward, one step back? The genome is a good example of a technological innovation which was bruited as being an extraordinary achievement but actually has achieved very little because we don't have anything like the power to implement what we might do with it. On a broader scale, as medicine becomes more complex, more expensive, we are failing to have mature debate about who's going to pay for it in the future... that's a worrying political issue. [You] can't really trust governments, can't trust politicians.Has any invention been unambiguously good? There are so many, it's hard to focus on one. I've been thinking of generic technologies which all have a downside. But I'd rather live now than at any time in the past.Robert WinstonRobin McKieguardian.co.uk© Guardian News&Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to ourTerms&Conditions|More Feeds

entry.11 Fashion Tips For And Size Women Over fifty
Ladies are just like fine wine. As they grow up, a lot of mature, and a lot of lovely, their inner lady looks to gain a sense of assured confidence, brought on by the years of experience in life. I've got always admired women over fifty who carry their age with a way of pride, vogue and class. As girls become old their sense of fashion looks to mature along with them. What is stylish and ‘in fashion’ may not essentially be the attire of choice any longer. Why will this happen? Most likely as girls get busier and have more responsibilities they appear to opt for things which are comfy to work in not necessarily stylish. However I assume ladies ought to not give up their sense of style, simply as a result of their day got busier and a few grey hairs are revelation here and there. On the opposite hand as women mature they must adjust to their age, by selecting things of clothing that enhance their beauty and their figure. And size girls who are over fifty have each reason to decorate in a fashionable manner. Stores that cater for his or her desires would possibly not essentially be easily on the market, that is true. But that is no reason to compromise. Particularly with the Net being so widely offered these days, a mess of store are suddenly obtainable to cater for a mature and size girl’s needs. As an example store like Ulla Popken and Junonia have a nice choice of plus size clothing out there that is great for the mature girl’s needs. Prices are cheap and sizes are vast. Mature and size ladies ought to take care to decide on things which create the foremost of their curves, and also their age. Some tips to abide by are the subsequent - 1. Take care to settle on the proper size to fit your body. Don’t opt for items that fit too tightly, the concept if for clothing to hug your body thus that's provides it definition and enhances the curves. Choosing things that are too tight can not look too classy. At the identical times items which are too dishevelled should also be avoided. Your dress of selection will not have to appear sort of a tent! Simply as a result of you’re and size, will not mean you've got to hide your body. Boast those beautiful curves during a elegant and chic manner. 2. Avoid fussy prints. Fussy fabrics have the tendency to create and size girls look even bigger. Whereas we are proud of our curves, the clothing we have a tendency to opt for ought to build the most of our full figures, enhancing them instead of giving them wrong definition. 3. Persist with classic styles and clean cuts. Just as fussy printed materials make us look a little bit larger, thus do fussy designs. For example avoid an excessive amount of frill and things of the sort. Such clothing does not facilitate outline a full figured body to the simplest of it’s shape. Instead stick clean cuts and classic designs which work best for our curves. 4. Try and avoid sporting something that is too short. If you've got lovely legs, be pleased with them and by all mean show them off whenever you get a likelihood however, do this with style, style and moderation. Do wear skirts and shorts. But avoid something that's too short. 5. As we tend to mature, some components of our body tend to lose a number of that useful gravity. This is often nothing to stress about, as when selecting clothes and underwear with good support, things will be kept up to the necessary heights the least bit times. But I might recommend not to exposure the arms too much. Being over fifty will not mean ladies have to provide up on having a sense of style. Especially not and size women! On the opposite hand women ought to create the foremost of this point in their life. With the right garments any plus size girl who is over fifty will feel and appear sort of a million dollars!Read more on Fashion Tips For And Size Women Over fifty…

Tips For Home Sellers - How to Compete Effectively Against Foreclosures and Short SalesSelling a home in today's real estate market can be an eye-opening experience for many sellers. Many acknowledge the changing real estate landscape, but since their home is clearly the"best one in the neighborhood", short sales and foreclosure sales are often dismissed as irrelevant. This perception is particularly true in areas where short sales and foreclosures represent a high ratio of overall home sales. In order to effectively compete with this trend, it's critical to understand how these types of transactions impact local real estate markets. Zillow.com recently published the results of their research into the percentage of foreclosure home sales and the associated"foreclosure discount" in different real estate markets across the country. This research illustrates the point that foreclosure home sales really do create two separate markets and that home buyers tend to demand a discount over and above the physical damage often seen in these homes. All data was from the 3rd quarter of 2009:Forelosure Sales - Metropolitan Area Foreclosure Discount as % of All Sales:Pittsburgh, PA 59% 10%Cincinnati, OH 39% 15%Columbus, OH 38% 19%Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN 34% 26%Phoenix, AZ 29% 58%Denver, CO 27% 25%Los Angeles, CA 27% 39%Kansas City, MO 25% 29%Riverside, CA 25% 66%San Diego, CA 24% 39%San Francisco, CA 24% 39%Las Vegas, NV 23% 74%Washington, D.C. 21% 21%Sacramento, CA 19% 50%Seattle, WA 19% 17%Portland, OR 18% 18%Source: Zillow.comBased on the results of their survey Zillow reports an average"foreclosure discount" of about 28%, which is an important factor for other home sellers to consider. For example, in the Denver real estate market where the foreclosure discount is reported at 27%, that $146,000 foreclosure sale down the street might suggest that a similar clean, well-kept, non-distressed home in the same area might command as much as $200,000. We can't do much to change the fact that these types of real estate transactions are influencing many real estate markets across the country; what we can do is acknowledge the problem and figure out how to successfully market and sell homes in this environment. Here are a few common-sense tips for home sellers who want to successfully compete against foreclosures and short sales:!)!) First and foremost, price your home competitively. This does not necessarily mean that the foreclosure sale down the street is the best comp for your home, but it has to be considered.!)!) Present your home in prime condition. Foreclosures and short sales tend to be in comparatively rough shape; people losing their homes often neglect routine maintenance for quite a while before they actually lose the home. Your home has to clearly out-shine the competition in this area. Doing so will go a long way to overcoming the"foreclosure discount".!)!) Hire a Realtor who will out market the competition. Just putting a sign in the yard and flyers in a box won't cut it. In order to stand out and differentiate your home from sub-par competition like foreclosures and short sales, your marketing efforts need to include an intense online focus with quality details, i.e. virtual tours, lots of good photos, enhanced listings, detailed descriptions, etc. Make it clear to potential buyers that there's a difference in quality.!)!) Offer minor incentives that highlight some of the advantages your home offers. Foreclosures and short sales tend to represent increased risk to the buyer as these homes have not been cared for, may have been vacant and neglected for a long time, and can even be tough to inspect thoroughly because the utilities are shut off. Offering things like a home warranty, a pre-sale inspection report, etc., can draw attention to the fact that your home is a better value because it represents higher quality and less risk.!)!) Make sure you can offer a reasonably quick closing. Particularly with short sales, timing can be a deal killer for many home buyers. Waiting for a response from the bank - sometimes for months - is frustrating for many potential home buyers and makes these types of sales a challenge. With the federal tax-credit deadline looming, timing will become more and more of an issue and is an area where you can easily stand out. These are just a few tips on how home sellers can effectively compete with foreclosures and short sales. The main focus should be creating separation on points of interest that matter to home buyers, and marketing those differences in the most effective way. Understanding the effect these types of transactions have on the residential re-sale market in your area will enable you to plan your home-selling strategy appropriately, and overcome the dreaded"foreclosure discount"!

entry.13 The IPO Market: Busier, Yet Chilly
ByDavid BogoslawThe liquidity options for emerging or struggling companies aren't very encouraging these days. Experts expect sluggish activity on the mergers and acquisitions front. Investor jitters about equities as a whole have put nearly a dozen initial public offerings on hold. Resurgent volatility in the stock market since mid-January has made would-be IPO investors uncomfortable, says David Menlow, president of IPO Financial Network, a research firm in Millburn, N.J. He believes most investors are more concerned about the strength of their core portfolios than they are about companies that have yet to prove themselves in the marketplace. Others are more optimistic. "This is the first [year] in a while that the IPO market will pay higher [prices] than the M&A market," says Bill Gurley, general partner at Benchmark Capital, a venture capital firm in Menlo Park, Calif. Unlike two years ago, M&A is now a buyer's market, where buyers feel much more in control and refuse to pay more than they think they should for assets. Benchmark sponsored one IPO in 2009 and Gurley expects it to do two to four deals in 2010. To the extent that IPO valuations may be higher, it's because private equity firms are choosing to bring more mature companies to market these days, relative to the profile of traditional venture-backed IPOs, says Matthew Therian, an analyst at Renaissance Capital, an IPO research firm in Greenwich, Conn. IPO investors expect a 10% valuation discount relative to the stock's publicly traded peer companies, says Therian. "With mature companies, you have a better sense of what the growth will be over the next few years, [so] they might be sensitive to a premium valuation," he says. Higher-than-expected prices won't necessarily put off would-be investors because those who are interested in more mature companies may have different expectations, he adds. Many more IPOs, but problems persistStill, the track record so far this year suggests lower, not higher, valuations than issuers had hoped for. Based on gross proceeds, 9 of the 13 IPOs seen in 2010 were smaller than were originally proposed, with the average IPO raising 14% less than expected, says Therian. The IPO pipeline seems to be swelling in volume, if not strength. Eighty companies have filed for offerings worth a total of $13.65 billion in the last six months, according to data research firm Dealogic. Undeterred by tough market conditions, six new companies filed to go public on Feb. 18, the highest number filed in a single day since July 2007, say analysts at Renaissance Capital. A total of 28 companies have submitted IPO filings since the start of 2010, vs. four that filed in the entire first quarter of 2009. On the other hand, 5 of the 11 companies scheduled to go public earlier in February postponed their offerings and the remaining 6 all cut their deal sizes—by more than 30% on average—according to Renaissance, which said that only 3 logged positive returns on their first day of trading,. Graham Packaging (GRM), in its Feb. 10 offering of shares at $10 each, raised roughly $160.7 million, less than half of the $350 million target that its private equity majority owner, Blackstone Group (BX) had said it hoped to raise in a November 2009 filing with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission. Blackstone had intended to sell more than 11% of its interest in the company but didn't sell any shares. The fact that Blackstone's stock took a hit after the company cut both the number of shares and the price of the Graham offering "shows the market is not at a strength yet to handle either a mature volume of IPOs [or] potentially to support the valuation of the would-be issuers," says Ron Geffner, a senior partner at Sadis & Goldberg, a New York law firm that represents over 500 clients, including domestic and offshore hedge funds and private equity and venture capital funds. Hunger for Big-trend tech issuesHigh unemployment and persistent worries about the stock market among the broader population are likely to prevent most IPO issuers from being able to maximize their valuations and achieve their goals by going public in the next six months, adds Geffner. He believes that policy initiatives in Washington will probably play a big part in determining the kind of IPOs that long-term investors are willing to buy. He expects to see increased demand for health-care and diagnostic-equipment companies as well as companies able to benefit from the construction of the first new nuclear power plants in the U.S. in 34 years. Benchmark's Gurley agrees that the buy side is mostly interested in big trends such as smartphones, open-source software, and social networking. "If Facebook were to go public tomorrow, there would be a lot of interest," he says. While Graham's disappointing offering shows how weak the public appetite currently is for new companies, the company's debut counts as a success compared with another Blackstone-sponsored deal, Travelport, whose estimated $1.78 billion London IPO was postponed on Feb. 10. The recent postponement of multiple deals signals an inflection point in the market and will require issuers to carefully adjust valuations of pending deals downward by 25% to 40% in order to get them done, says Menlow at IPO Financial Network. That will pose a problem for most IPO candidates, whose business plans are contingent on their being able to raise a certain amount in net proceeds from the public listing. Paying down debt—often a linchpin in those plans—won't be feasible if subsequent offerings get priced at less than half the value initially projected. postponements are sketchily explained"There are restrictive covenants out there for these companies, set forth in loan agreements that say: 'You can't go public until your loans with us are paid off,'" says Menlow. Take an issuing company that planned to raise $100 million through an IPO and is now being told it will get only $70 million. If it "has $80 million in debt, and was going to use $20 million for capital expenditures and product development, now they don't have that money." Issuers aren't telling investors the real reason the deals are being postponed, says Menlow. Concerns about inability to repay debt may have prompted FriendFinder Networks to pull its IPO for an estimated $220 million on Feb. 5. The online adult social networking site, which operates the Penthouse Web site, had $199.7 million in first-lien senior secured debt and $80 million in second-lien subordinated debt as of Sept. 30, 2009, plus at least $80 million in further debt. In a Feb. 4 SEC filing, FriendFinder said it planned to use its IPO proceeds "in accordance with our amended note agreements" to repay $179.6 million of first-lien notes at premium redemption prices and an additional $2.7 million in waiver fees to holders of the first- and second-lien notes. No one at RenCap Securities or Ledgemont Capital Group, the lead managers of FriendFinder's IPO, immediately returned calls for comment on the decision to postpone the offering. For Paul Bard, director of research at Renaissance Capital, IPO cancellations are being driven more by private equity holders' unwillingness to discount their stock than by concerns about inability to pay down debt. debt-free, staged issues?"They can always raise enough to pay down debt, but they would have to cut the equity price," he says. "If the market is unwilling to attach a value that appeases private equity holders, they're electing not to move forward with these deals." Ideally, there's nothing to stop companies without significant debt from going forward with IPO plans, says Menlow. They could afford to sell a token number of shares at a lower price—and if the business is as good as they think it is, their stock price would appreciate over time, setting the stage for a more lucrative secondary offering, he says. Although there seems to be a lot of pent-up demand for IPOs among institutional investors seeking big growth plays for their portfolios, would-be investors may be catching a whiff of desperation among private equity sponsors eager to cash out and start delivering on promises to the investors in their funds. The economic climate makes it hard for private equity owners to use IPOs to execute exit strategies right now, says Menlow. The only way the market will embrace a private equity-sponsored offering that isn't a household name is if the firm retains its position at the IPO—"rather than becoming a majority seller, which has classically been the case," he says. Investors are right to ask "if it's such a wonderful offering that you're going to make it a public offering, then why are you getting out?" he adds.Bogoslaw is a reporter for Bloomberg BusinessWeek's Finance channel.

entry.14 Henry Moore: the invisible man
From office blocks to shopping streets, Moore's sculptures are part of the fabric of Britain !) so much so that we no longer notice. A new Tate retrospective wants to make us look againAs a new Tate retrospective prepares to open, it can be difficult to judge the reputation of Henry Moore, in his own lifetime one of the most famous and wealthy artists in the world. It's not that Moore has vanished from the public stage in the years since his death in 1986 — far from it, in fact. Moore's problem is that he has become so ubiquitous as to become near-invisible.Stand on London's Bond Street, just beneath a massive work by Moore !) the four-panel Portland stone Time-Life Screen, installed in 1953 as part of the building of the same name !) and you guess that of the thousands of people who pass by every day, barely one looks up, still less admires. The nice American couple I found waiting to have their photograph taken on a park bench between a bronze Churchill and bronze Roosevelt looked startled at being asked what they thought of the Henry Moore. "But that's not by him, is it?" the man said in surprise. "Isn't Moore the guy who punches holes through everything?" If only they'd looked up. Like so much of Moore's work, the Time-Life Screen has become so familiar as to disappear into the background texture of 20th-century British urban life. It's the same story just down the road in Millbank, where smokers shelter behind the gigantic bronze Locking Piece, and use it as a windbreak. Half a mile away there's another thumping great bronze, the two-section 1962 Knife Edge, opposite the House of Lords !) a site chosen by Moore for its high visibility. Half a mile again, and you find Moore's very first public commission, made when he was a teacher at the Royal College of Art, the singularly un-airy West Wind high on the facade of the London Underground block over St James's Park tube station. Take a train to Stevenage and you can locate his first family group !) one of many made after the death of his mother and the birth of his only child, Mary, named after her !) outside a school, and another that used to be out in the precinct but now takes refuge in the civic centre in Harlow. An elegant interactive website maintained by the Henry Moore Foundation lists scores more works on public display across 30 sites in Britain alone, from the 1944 Family Group in Aberdeen Art Gallery to the memorial to his friend Christopher Martin in the grounds of Dartington Hall, and even more all over the world, in stone, plaster, bronze, wood, on paper, in tapestries !) around 800 works in all.As the Turner prize-winning artist Simon Starling writes in the catalogue to the new Tate show: "From the beginning, Henry Moore seemed omnipresent !) a state-endorsed, global player, the first of his kind perhaps. His huge bronzes seemed to drop from the sky in great meteor showers and felt to my young mind rather clumsy and anachronistic, even provincial." Starling, who won the Turner in 2005 for pieces including Shedboatshed !) the shed he dismantled, built into a boat, paddled down the Rhine to a museum and reconstructed as a shed !) has also made work directly responding to Moore's, and not necessarily with an admiring eye.In 2006!)07, Starling created a work called Infestation Piece for the Toronto Art Gallery of Ontario, a museum and a city with a complex relationship with Moore. In the late 1950s, a go-getting mayor, Philip Givens, commissioned a major Moore sculpture, The Archer, for its new City Hall. Starling's Infestation Piece is a Moore replica, lowered into the lake until it became encrusted with an invasive species of mussels: a hint that the sculpture itself is a form of alien in the landscape. The Toronto Art Gallery is the Tate's partner in organising this exhibition. Both museums have world-class collections that were acquired in Moore's lifetime, but Toronto's is much the larger !) and the story of how that happened is a fascinating insight into attitudes to Moore in his lifetime. Moore donated major sculptures, drawings, maquettes and other works to the Tate, of which he was a trustee. In the late 1960s, there was discussion of creating a special Henry Moore wing at Tate Britain, which would certainly have attracted many more donations !) but the project was seen by some artists as memorialising Moore himself, and attracted bitter criticism. One of the show's curators, Chris Stephens, has written of the episode in an article for the Tate magazine, and of what he terms the "final insult" when in 1968, the year of Moore's 70th birthday, a letter appeared in the Times condemning the proposed wing. It was signed by 41 artists, including his former studio assistants Anthony Caro and Phillip King; not much of a birthday present. Moore donated more than 900 pieces !) including some of the works he must have intended for the Tate !) to Toronto in 1974, before eventually making another donation to the Tate with no strings attached. In much the way that his public art now seems commonplace, it is easy to see Moore as invincibly nice and decent: the seventh of eight children of a Yorkshire mining engineer, a scholarship boy who never forgot his working-class roots, whose work speaks of home and family, peace and plenty, a man with socialist sympathies and a pacifist heart. When their London home was damaged in the Blitz, the Moores moved to a modest two-storey rented farmhouse, Hoglands, at Perry Green in Hertfordshire !) still a surprisingly remote and rural corner of the home counties. They eventually bought the house and the surrounding fields. Moore added workshops no grander than his neighbours' farm sheds, and extended the house slightly, but it has none of the grandeur you might expect of an artist who became a millionaire many times over while he lived there. Indeed, the Henry Moore Foundation, which now maintains the estate as a museum, archive and outdoor sculpture park, was established not just to ensure his legacy but to mop up some of the millions he would otherwise have spent in tax.Visitors to Perry Green can tour the house, the handsome antique-filled dining room, the bright drawing room with Scandinavian-design modern furniture where grander visitors were received !) and the claustrophobic sitting room where the Moores actually spent most of their leisure time, a space filled with rickety furniture that you wouldn't be surprised to see in a charity shop. The house reflects the popular image of the artist as "an easygoing, avuncular figure who produced an equally easygoing form of modern sculpture", as Stephens says !) an image which the exhibition will attempt to destroy. There is, the curators aim to show, a lot more to Moore than monumental decency, despite his undergoing the national beatification which befell John Betjeman and has almost smothered Alan Bennett. The exhibition will bring together more than 150 works, from the early white marble Dog carved in 1922, to a Reclining Figure in seductively polished elm, completed in 1978 when Moore was 80. There will be works in stone, bronze and plaster; working drawings and finished works on paper !) including the famous Blitz sleepers in London's Underground !) and his cramped and contorted miners, who are given an archaic grandeur by the artist. Stephens sees anger, darkness and violence in many of these works !) born, he believes, from the first-world-war experience that marked Moore for life: the artist was gassed at Cambrai and was among just 52 survivors from a 400-strong battalion. There is a sinister edge to many pieces, he argues, and a raw sexuality in all those holes and protruberances. The elm reclining figures are exceptional. Moore himself never saw them together: the first was begun in 1935, and in his lifetime they were scattered across different collections. The surrealist painter Gordon Onslow Ford, who bought the 1939 version of the sculptures, wrote: "I felt that I was in the presence of the mother earth goddess." The critic David Sylvester was one of many who saw something almost menacing in its form !) "the sacrificed and resurrected god of a fertility rite". Such views are a timely reminder that the artist was once seen as so threateningly modern that Roland Penrose's neighbours reacted in outrage when he put a Moore Mother and Child in his Hampstead front garden. And when an Essex new town commissioned a work entitled Harlow Family Group, it provoked a public demonstration by people fearful that the sculpture was an obscene jeer at Harlow's "pram town" nickname."In contrast to the dominant idea of Moore, we propose that he presented the body as abject, erotic, vulnerable, violated and visceral," Stephens writes. "They are part of a wider challenge to reason, of the redfinition of the human body as discontinuous, fluid and driven by deep unconscious forces, and of a world characterised by apprehension and anxiety, the uncanny and the absurd. Moore's is a troubled and troubling art that digs into the very essence of modern experience." That would be news to the tourists in Bond Street and the Millbank smokers !) but maybe it is indeed time they looked again.SculptureArtHeritageExhibitionsTate BritainMaev Kennedyguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds

entry.15 Five Ways to Turbo-Charge Your Lunch Hour
How do you normally spend your lunch hour? Wait, let’s back up a bit: do you eventakea lunch hour? A lot of us end up grabbing a sandwich at our desks, checking emails or maybe surfing the net a bit during our lunch break. Often, the best-case scenario sees us in a staff canteen or at a local sandwich shop with friends. It’s easy to treat the lunch hour as dead time in your day !) or as an opportunity to catch up with an overflowing inbox or to-do list. But treating your lunch hour well means setting yourself up for success in the rest of the day !) and potentially your life. Here’s how:Make it a Full HourWhen I was a teen, I had the occasional “free period” in school !) an hour with no classes. I was always amazed at how much homework I could get through then, compared with at home. An hour is a great length of time to focus on something: long enough to get into it, not so long that your attention starts wandering.A great first step to making the most of your lunch hour is to actually take that full hour. This is easier in an office environment where others do too, but you can always start a new trend! If you really want people to respect your time and avoid interrupting you with work matters while you’re having your lunch break, then get as far from your desk as possible !) head to the break room, the canteen or lobby, or right out of your building.Think About Your LunchNow, although you’re unlikely to spend a whole hour actuallyeatinglunch, it’s called a “lunch” hour for a reason. The food you put into your body in the middle of the day is your fuel for the afternoon. If you find yourself feeling sleepy or lethargic mid-afternoon, there’s a good chance it’s to do with what you’re eating. You don’t need to be a nutritional expert to eat well at lunch.Focus on these key basics:Eat a lighter lunch if you want to be more alert in the afternoon (and have a small snack two !) three hours after lunch)Avoid alcohol at lunch time !) even a single beer or glass of wine is enough to make you less alertHave some fiber and protein to keep you full for longer. Whole grains, fruit, veggies and lean meats are all great sources.Avoid high-sugar foods which will give you a temporary energy boost, followed by a crash.Get Some ExerciseSitting at a desk for eight hours straight isn’t good for anyone.Make a point of getting some exercise every lunch break !) even if it’s just a fifteen minute brisk walk.If you’ve got a gym nearby, take advantage of it.I’m sure you’re well aware of the benefits of exercise, but so many of us struggle to fit it into our day. This might not necessarily be something directly related to your job: for example, you could use your lunch hour to learn vocabulary for a foreign language.Lunch time is also a great chance for some reading. Many of us feel we don’t have time to read !) even though books are one of the cheapest ways to learn about almost any topic. If pouring over a non-fiction book isn’t your idea of a fun lunch break, how about picking up a novel instead? (If you need some convincing that fiction is worthwhile, here’s eight reasons to read fiction.)Pursue a New Career...?Finally, if your lunch hours are the one bright spot in a job that you don’t especially like, how about using them to plan your escape? If you get outside the office to a local coffee shop or park, and you have a laptop you can work on, you’ll probably be OK.I spent the lunch hours in one student summer job writing a novel. When I worked in my last day job, I sometimes wrote blog posts during my lunch breaks. If you’ve got a side project or even a small business, can you spend your lunch hours on it?That could mean:Writing your business plan.Looking up sources of funding and other information online.Sending emails or making phone calls to clients or potential clients.Doing freelance work (such as writing or designing).Reading relevant books and blogs to learn about that career.Spending time planning or brainstorming.Do be careful with this one, though !) and make sure you’re not breaking any of the terms in your current employment contract. Are your lunch hours helping you get to where you want to be in life? entry.16 Fashion Tips For And Size Women Over 50
Ladies are just like fine wine. As they mature, additional mature, and more stunning, their inner lady seems to gain a sense of assured confidence, brought on by the years of experience in life. I've got perpetually admired women over 50 who carry their age with a sense of pride, vogue and class. As ladies age their sense of fashion looks to mature together with them. What's trendy and ‘in fashion’ may not necessarily be the attire of selection any longer. Why will this happen? In all probability as girls get busier and have more responsibilities they seem to go for items which are comfortable to work in not essentially stylish. However I think women ought to not provide up their sense of style, simply because their day got busier and some grey hairs are spotlight here and there. On the opposite hand as ladies get older they must adjust to their age, by choosing things of clothing that enhance their beauty and their figure. Plus size girls who are over fifty have each reason to decorate in an exceedingly stylish manner. Stores which cater for his or her desires might not essentially be easily obtainable, that is true. Mature and size ladies ought to be careful to decide on things which build the most of their curves, and conjointly their age. Some tips to abide by are the following - 1. Use caution to settle on the proper size to fit your body. Don’t opt for things that work too tightly, the thought if for clothing to hug your body thus that's offers it definition and enhances the curves. Choosing things which are too tight can not look too classy. At the same times items that are too dishevelled ought to also be avoided. Your dress of alternative does not have to seem sort of a tent! Simply as a result of you’re and size, does not mean you have got to hide your body. Swank those lovely curves in an exceedingly elegant and chic manner. 2. Avoid fussy prints. Whereas we are happy with our curves, the clothing we have a tendency to select should make the foremost of our full figures, enhancing them instead of giving them wrong definition. 3. Keep on with classic styles and clean cuts. Just as fussy printed fabrics create us look a very little bit bigger, so do fussy designs. For example avoid too much frill and things of the sort. Such clothing does not facilitate outline a full figured body to the simplest of it’s shape. Instead stick clean cuts and classic styles which work best for our curves. 4. Strive and avoid carrying anything that's too short. If you have beautiful legs, be pleased with them and by all mean show them off whenever you get a probability but, do this with taste, vogue and moderation. Do wear skirts and shorts. But avoid something that is too short. 5. As we mature, some elements of our body tend to lose some of that helpful gravity. This is nothing to worry regarding, as when selecting clothes and underwear with good support, things will be kept up to the necessary heights in any respect times.
